Several of my co-workers show up in the mornings and immediately set to having breakfast - bagels, huge chocolate chip petrified muffins, big mugs of cereal with milk (a bowl looks bad).
Within about four hours, the same people will order or find a big lunch, and sit down and eat that, too.
That's two meals a day with me and other innocent co-workers. As far as I know, these same people also go home and eat a normal dinner with their own families. That's once a day. 2 x 5 (weekdays, but some of them do come in for OT on Saturdays) = at least 10 meals with co-workers. I guess they manage 11 elsewhere, if they eat three meals a day on the weekend (5 weeknight dinners + 6 meals on the weekend).
This is while working for an employer who basically dictates what to wear, when to get up, availability of healthcare, what political positions you can work for outside of work, what you can say at all while you're at work, how long you can rest during the day and how long you can and must work during the week (in theory, but all of these can fail in practice).
The interpersonal dynamics in our division are very much those of a family.
